The following table can be used to calculate the cost of electricity that each of your appliance use, on a daily, monthly or yearly basis. You will require your last electricity bill and you will need to know how to recognise the amount of electricity used during that billing period, measured in kilowatt hours (Kwh) as well as the cost of the electricity consumed during the billing period.
Your electricity consumption is measured in kilowatt hours (Kwh). Simply put, 1 Kwh is the amount of kilowatts consumed in one hour.
Most appliances are rated in watts or kilowatts and you will normally find this information printed on a plate on the back or underneath of the appliance. Most geysers are rated at 4000 watts or 4Kw although smaller geysers can be rated at 3000 watts or 3 Kw. 1000 watts = 1 kilowatt and you may find that 1 kilowatt is written “1 kw” whereas 1000 watts will be written 1000w
